Things we are doing:
Plastic and paper recycling
Using more efficient fluorescent light bulbs
Setting thermostat to 78oF in summer (hoping to save 3%)
Installation of hands free paper towel dispensers
Installation of foam soap dispensers
Changing roof on south building
New outside air makeup unit to use fresh air. Waste air used to pre-cool entering air (removes 20 tons on a/c load)
New carpet installed in buildings 100% recyclable and purchased from 0% emissions company
Future:
Removing paper towels in restrooms and replacing with air dryers. Eliminate paper, less waste (and fewer clogged sinks and toilets!!!!)
Changing to desert landscape along 40th and Washington Streets
Installing new energy efficient chiller and cooling towers in the central plant.
Put solar film on CHCH building windows
Install insulating shade blinds on all windows
Purchase cardboard baler and recycle all cardboard
Install infrared faucets in CHCE building
Move toward environmentally friendly cleaning solutions
Convert pneumatic controls to electric and eliminate air compressor
Convert exit signs to LED
Have ARAMARK remove fluorescent bulbs from vending machines
All landscape clippings to mulch or composter
Change lighting in main building to lowest acceptable lighting for activity
Things you can do:
Get rid of incandescent lights in offices
Turn off light and fans when leaving rooms
Use common frig and microwave (no private ones in offices)
Allow facilities to trash office 2x a week instead of everyday (food waste to hall garbage)
Behavior modification, if recycled mixed with trash in office, trash not removed???
